How a Hummingbird Sparked an Idea

I thought my novel writing days might be behind me.

After releasing a book every six months for years, the ideas that once came so quickly simply… stopped. I still loved storytelling, but the creative spark felt different than it used to.

Then something unexpected happened.

I was scrolling online when I saw a beautiful glass mug with a hummingbird on it, and suddenly a woman named Naomi appeared in my imagination.

I know that probably sounds strange to non-writers, but writers will understand exactly what I mean.

At first, all I knew about Naomi was that she had been deeply betrayed by someone she loved. Before her death, she made a gut-wrenching decision that would forever change the lives of her adult children.

That single moment became the beginning of a story.

Now Naomi’s Legacy is becoming a women’s fiction novel about family, grief, redemption, difficult choices, and the ways love continues shaping people long after someone is gone.

For the people left behind, it’s a story about control, forgiveness, second chances, and what happens when a lie forces a family to confront truths they’ve spent years avoiding.

The strange thing is… I wasn’t looking for another novel idea.

This one found me. And Naomi seems pretty determined to tell her story.

I’m still in the writing process, but I wanted to let you be among the first to know about it because you’re sharing this journey with me, some for years. I’ll tell you more as the story unfolds.

Until next time,
Karen
