As April unfolds, I’m struck by a metaphor for life’s unique blend of beauty and challenges.
In my home state of Arizona, I love when March and April launch the spectacular flowering season for cacti. It starts with the yellow, orange, red, and magenta blossoms on prickly pears, followed by a bounty of other flowers. But this beauty comes with a sobering reality. Our springtime flowers can fuel summer wildfires. While those blazes leave scars, they also make way for new life.
And therein lies the metaphor that inspires my writing.
