CHARACTER INTERVIEW: ZACH GLEASON

We’re here with Deputy Zach Gleason, co-protagonist in my upcoming inspirational romantic suspense novel, LAST STOP, book #4 in my award-winning Peach Blossom Romantic Suspense series.

Zach, welcome. To begin, could you share a bit about your background?

Zach: Thanks for having me. My childhood in Tulsa was filled with joy. Dad instilled in me a sense of duty and a love for our community. He was a detective, and I looked up to him. His dedication inspired me to follow in his footsteps. Mom filled our home with warmth, love, fun, and surprises.

Tell us about the tragic turn in your life when you were a teenager.

I was 16 when I witnessed Dad’s murder. It shook me to my core. The guilt of not being able to stop it stayed with me.

How did that experience shape you as a person and as a law enforcement officer?

Zach: That was my darkest hour. A teenager isn’t emotionally equipped to deal with such trauma and guilt. I always felt like I was a coward because I didn’t step in and stop it. Dad and I had just had an argument, and that added to my overpowering guilt. But my mother turned our tragedy into strength. She learned self-defense, both martial arts and shooting, and taught me to do the same. Now, she empowers other women to protect themselves. Her legacy of resilience is something I try to emulate.

What motivated you to leave Tulsa and start fresh in Peach Blossom?

Zach: After the murder and some personal setbacks, I needed a new start. Peach Blossom called to me with its idyllic charm. The town, with its iconic square and the scent of peaches in the air, became my refuge. It’s a close-knit farming community where neighbors stand up for each other and a handshake seals a deal. I found peace here.

How do you manage the memories of your past while working as a deputy in Peach Blossom?

Zach: This town and its people have a way of healing wounds. I channel the pain of my past into my work, ensuring that Peach Blossom remains a safe haven. I’ve found solace in the support of the community and the beauty that surrounds us every day.

Tell us about the moment you saw Savannah Douglas in Peach Blossom.

Zach: I saw Savannah in her beat-up car pull up to the bank, and her wedding dress caught my eye as her veil fluttered out the window. It tickled me that such a beautiful bride was driving herself to her own wedding. The news that she was running away from it hit a nerve, you know? It reminded me of my similar experience, and I wanted nothing to do with someone who would run out on her groom like that. Despite my reservations, duty kicked, and protecting her and Peach Blossom became the priority, no matter my personal history.

What advice could you share with those facing their own challenges?

Zach: Life throws its curveballs. Sometimes it feels like you’re drowning in darkness. But never underestimate the strength you can find within yourself and your community, and through belief in something bigger than yourself. Embrace the support around you, and remember, even in the darkest times, there’s always a glimmer of light. Stay resilient and strong in your faith, and you’ll find your way.

Why should readers order LAST STOP and join you on your emotional journey of danger and discovery?

Zach: LAST STOP is about so much more than a pretty small town and an unlikely romance. It’s about the strength and resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
