We’re here with Savannah Douglas, co-protagonist in my upcoming inspirational romantic suspense novel, LAST STOP, book #4 in my award-winning Peach Blossom Romantic Suspense series.
Savannah, can you explain the significance of the title?
Savannah: Certainly. The title encapsulates my personal journey. From the time I was 5 years old, my life had been a series of stops, each one a temporary refuge from danger, whether real or imagined.
A pivotal moment in the LAST STOP story forces me to decide. I could break free from the cycle of running and confront the fears instilled by my childhood, or I could keep running. It’s a transformative instant, where the weight of my past collides with the hope for a different future. Peach Blossom became my “last stop” in the literal and metaphorical sense.
Can you share a little of what happened in your childhood?
Savannah: I was just a scared little 5-year-old, clinging to my mother as we slipped away from the thunder of my father’s raging anger. We lived on the run, moving every few months to stay ahead of him. Those tough early years molded me into the person I am today. In many ways, I continued to cling to my mother until I made my stand in LAST STOP.
What other childhood experiences influenced who you are today?
Savannah: After my dad died, and we were free to return home, my granddad became my rock. The scent of his auto shop reminded me of a place where life felt normal. Fixing cars together was our language of love, a way for him to teach me strength and resilience. That same scent in LAST STOP triggered my decision to stop running.
Did the struggles of your childhood also influence your career choices?
Savannah: Yes. I became a social worker to help mend other broken families. My emotions were still too raw for that, so I found a different career that followed a script, something predictable. Little did I know, life had a plot twist waiting for me in Peach Blossom, where both careers played an important role in the story.
Why did you flee from your wedding?
Savannah: My fiancée was a charmer, with lots of money that offered stability and a smile that could light up a room. He was distracted while I walked toward him at our wedding. LAST STOP starts with me making the life-altering decision to demand more.
How did Deputy Zach Gleason enter the picture?
Savannah: Zach is a complex soul, tall and guarded, with eyes that hide a multitude of emotions. He had his own heartbreak and dark past that collided with mine. He rescued me when I was being attacked while still in my wedding gown. My appearance triggered his own issues, and he wanted nothing to do with me. But Peach Blossom had plans for both of us.
The troubles we encountered in LAST STOP ran deep, like an iceberg with most of its mass hidden beneath the water. What began as a bank robbery morphed into a battle against a much larger and sinister plot. The emotional weight of uncovering such darkness, coupled with a personal vendetta tied to Zach’s past, pushed us both to the brink and united us. I guess you could say we rescued each other.
Why should readers order LAST STOP and join you on this emotional journey?
Savannah: LAST STOP is not just about the physical place or a romance. The story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
If you want to experience a story that will make your heart race, your emotions swell, and your belief in the power of love and redemption soar, then this is the adventure for you. This isn’t just a novel. It’s an emotional odyssey, a chance to witness the resilience of the human heart against the backdrop of a town fighting for its soul.
