“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good
madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks
you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art—write or draw or
build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next
year, you surprise yourself.”

He Survived an Avalanche
Jimmy Chin (above, from Nat Geo video) is one of the lucky people who survived an avalanche. Globally, about 150 a year die from avalanches. This National Geographic video tells the terrifying story of an adventure photographer surviving an avalanche in the Grand Tetons. He said he “popped out at the toe” and walked away feeling like all his bones broke, though none did. Most people aren’t that lucky. Jimmy was completely exhausted when it was over—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He took the next month to surf in Mexico while he recovered from the experience. Frankie’s Avalanche Experience
An avalanche is one of many dangers Frankie Shep faces in my upcoming novella, Survival Instinct, Book 2 in the Frankie Shep series. Frankie is a feisty ginger-haired woman on her way to a conference on environmental protection in ranching. Her airplane crashes, and she’s determined to get herself, a toddler girl, and a Pomeranian dog back to civilization. But the guy who brought down her airplane on one of the highest peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park is equally determined to eliminate all witnesses to his heinous act. See an excerpt here.
